Summer!

Hello Friends,

We are gearing up for the summer! The buds are about to pop and new life surrounds us. This spring feels especially warm and welcoming after a long winter. We are all doing well and little Iris is all healed up from her surgery and getting ready to walk and play. She is learning how to say, "grass" and "tree”, it's exciting to share the outside world with her. We are counting our blessings and we want to thank you for your support and prayers through her healing process.

There is a lot going on. As usual we have a lot of great shows we're really excited about this summer. Check out our tour dates here.

On May 10th, join us for the second annual Mother's Day concert and silent auction to benefit Friends of Michigan Midwives. Enjoy music by such favorites as May Erlewine Bernard, Lake Effect, Music of Kat Eldred, and Trevor Hobbs (Breathe Owl Breathe), beverages by Short's Brewing Company, Light of Day Organic Farm and Tea Shop, and a locally sourced taco bar! It was a really special gathering last year and we hope you’ll spend your afternoon with us!

On May 17th come see us with the Cadillac Area Symphony Orchestra!! Leon Williams has arranged a program of our original songs as well as a batch of songs from Samantha Crawford, who will also perform her soulful originals with the Symphony. We're from Big Rapids and Lake City and Samantha's representing Manton and we are all super honored and excited to meet in the crossroads of Cadillac for this unique collaboration! One show only! Big thanks to Mike Filkins for making this happen.

the Earthwork Farm Family Weekend is happening June 19th, 20th & 21st! The Earthwork Family Weekend is an annual camp for families, designed for children of all ages and open to the public. With a threefold focus on the arts, ecology and community building, the Earthwork Family Weekend provides workshops in songwriting, forest and field ecology, visual arts, dance, theater, plant and animal identification and more, as well as group circles of sharing, team building games and exercises, concerts and a talent show open to all that never ceases to bring the barn down. May has some special shows with her new band this summer. Check out May Erlewine and the Moonlighters, featuring Seth Bernard, Michael Shimmin, Max Lockwood, Brad Phillips and Levi Taylor. We have a whole batch of new tunes and we're playing at a town near you!

Keep Up the Quest

This is some of the most meaningful and creative work we've ever done. For 6 years, we and many of our colleagues from the Earthwork community have been working with Seeds, performing assemblies and facilitating after school workshops with middle and high schoolers across the NW lower peninsula. Last year, in collaboration with the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, the Quest was launched. The program, focused on placemaking, culminated with an amazing performance at the City Opera House and has been celebrated locally nationally.

This year the Quest continues, with a smaller group of schools but larger age range (K-12) and we've got an incredible team of brilliant facilitators and collaborators. We're combining food and farming and the culinary arts with music and visual art to Quest on into something fresh! New songs about food and farming, pairing culinary dishes with songs, little kiddos dancing in vegetable costumes, small farmers honored as local rock stars and so much more. Please consider donating to this amazing project today

Thanks for staying connected, we hope to see you this summer at a concert or on a lake. Enjoy each other and this beautiful season in the Mitten! We’ll be in touch.

Love
Seth and May
